We are a non-profit education agency partnering wtih a working farm to teach the Louisville community about the processes and products of organic and local agriculture. Our mission is to increase agricultural awareness in the community of Louisville, enabling people to identify their role and responsibility in the food system. We provide hands-on agricultural education on the farm for student pre-k through adult as well as professional development for educators. We can also bring educational programs to your school or other location, especially during winter. Our inquiry-based approach to teaching emphasizes real experience, and participants are encouraged to use all their senses to explore the farm. The Falls of the Ohio State Park and Interpretive Center is located on the banks of the Ohio River, overlooking downtown Louisville. A 14 minute, large screen movie introduces visitors to "400 Million Years at the Falls", which begins with the Devonian Sea and travels through history to the present time. The exhibits cover the natural and cultural history of the area in detail. The staff of the State Park monitors the Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area, known locally as the "fossil beds." We provide education programs to promote an awareness of the importance of this unique natural resource and the need to protect it. We also work with ORSANCO on the yearly Ohio River Sweep and with local agencies on watershed awareness and conservation. The park provides opportunities for fishing, hiking, bird watching, boating and picnics.
